The Whole Obama Nobel Thing, My 2 Cents.

I think they should’ve waited awhile, because giving it to him so early makes it seem like it’s an “honorary” nobel prize, and diminishes any effect it’s had.  I think they wanted to give it to him for letting the world love and look up to america again.

But I find it amusing that the republicans are smearing obama for receiving an honor he didn’t ask for or even know about (literally the only thing he did wrong was get out of bed this morning), and it is especially ironic because a few months ago you may recall some republicans were lobbying to try to get twitter the nobel peace prize for their wonderful accomplishments in doing nothing while clever Iranians used their service to coordinate protests.  Giving twitter the nobel is like giving the medal of honor to the company that made the paper the bill of rights was written on.

And a few short months later they’re railing against obama for getting the honor they wanted to give away to twitter.

That’s hilarious.

Oh, and obama got russia to agree on dismantling our combined nuclear arsenals and got iran to agree to let nuclear inspectors in, something bush couldn’t even get by threatning to nuke iran…

A very classy and logical thing to do when waging two wars fought under the rationale of preventing WMDs from being used…

But I digest.

  1. Really? Twitter?I mean… what? Really?!0_0

  2. rafi09 says:

I completely agree with you.And I also must ask, Twitter?? Why? Who is really idiotic enough to believe that Twitter has improved peace relations?

  3. HereInMyVoid says:

they seriously wanted twitter to get a nobel?! LOLOLOL , that’s the silliest thing i’ve heard today.

  4. ....... says:

    Fart you, butthole!

  5. agnophilo says:

@ElliottStrange – Yeah some republican congressman was lobbying for it.  That was more or less my reaction at the time.@rafi09 – Because people in iran used twitter to coordinate protests.  If anything the leaders of the iranian protests deserve it, not twitter.@HereInMyVoid – Yes, they really did.

  6. FalconBridge says:

A friend of mine on lunch was just pissed the Obama was on the tv again.  She said, “why doesn’t he get any work done?”  To which I replied he must have because he won the nobel peace.  They don’t give that away for doing nothing.  She didn’t say anything after that.  Normally I don’t speak up even around my friends at work.  We are on opposite sides almost all the time.

  7. agnophilo says:

@FalconBridge – Must be fun.  But yeah, if the president does a 20 minute press conference that’s not his whole day.

  8. And Glenn Beck thought the Nobel Peace Prize should be given to the Tea Partyers And 9/12 Marchers! To me, this Nobel Peace Prize sends us a message about how much other countries want the U.S. to change direction with foreign policy. They want us to use diplomatic power in a collaborative way rather than to use our physical power unilaterally. President Obama symbolizes the possibility of this shift. From the New York Times:“Americans elected Mr. Obama because they wanted him to restore American values and leadership — and because they believed he could. The Nobel Prize, and the broad endorsement that followed, shows how many people around the world want the same thing.”

  9. sophia says:

my dad was talking about how instead of being proud that the president of the united states had won this big award, the republicans are tearing him down. and they’re the ones who make this big deal about being patriotic.

  10. agnophilo says:

@redhairedgrrl –  “And Glenn Beck thought the Nobel Peace Prize should be given to the Tea Partyers And 9/12 Marchers!”Oh that’s just too funny.”Tome, this Nobel Peace Prize sends us a message about how much othercountries want the U.S. to change direction with foreign policy. Theywant us to use diplomatic power in a collaborative way rather than touse our physical power unilaterally. President Obama symbolizes thepossibility of this shift.”I agree.”From the New York Times:“Americanselected Mr. Obama because they wanted him to restore American valuesand leadership — and because they believed he could. The Nobel Prize, and the broad endorsement that followed, shows how many people aroundthe world want the same thing.”Again with agreeing : D

  11. agnophilo says:

@sophia – Republicans don’t grasp the idea of patriotism, loyalty to the set of ideals the country was founded upon.  They only grasp the shallow idea of loyalty to a party and it’s leaders.  Fortunately the number of people who call themselves republicans is shrinking for this reason.

  12. misuriver says:

I must join in with the masses when I say, “Really, twitter?!!!” Absolute proof the “right” has lost it’s collective mind.

  13. twitter does promote slacking, and slackers are a peaceful lot.

  14. Mugo60 says:

Goddamn I hate these people!!! If we revolt, The Pig Man is my target. This son of a bitch has done SO much damage. BTW, have you checked out Mike Malloy yet?

  15. agnophilo says:

@misuriver – A long time ago.  The republican party basically consists of neurotic people, racists, homophobes and religious whackjobs.@Paul_Partisan – Heh.@Mugo60 – The pig man?  And I think I did at the time.  Thought he was a little hyperbolic if memory serves.  Like that guy on the ed show on msnbc.  But I don’t remember, sorry.

  16. Mugo60 says:

@agnophilo – I think you misunderstood. The Pig Man is Limbaugh, the Oxymoron, Deaf by temtation. The abuse of oxycontin causes destroyed hearing.Pertaining to Mike Malloy, he is the most compassionate, passionate liberal talk show host you will ever hear. Thom Hartmann and Stephanie Miller are very good. Bill Press and Ron Reagan are in the same catagory. Go to AM1090, Seattle.

  17. agnophilo says:

@Mugo60 – Don’t live in seattle, lol.  But yeah, didn’t know that about oxicontin.

  18. For some Obama could shit bread and piss gold and he would still be a punch line.

  19. bukeshow says:

Have you heard some of the names the leaders of other countries call Obama?

  20. QuantumStorm says:

//I think they should’ve waited awhile, because giving it to him soearly makes it seem like it’s an “honorary” nobel prize, and diminishesany effect it’s had.  I think they wanted to give it to him for lettingthe world love and look up to america again.//In defense of the committee, I’d point out that MLK received his Nobel Peace Prize relatively early in his Civil Rights career. I think the prize is, depending on the connotation, a “Call to action”. Of course doing that with the science Nobel prizes is fucking retarded, but with the Peace prize? Maybe not so much.

  21. agnophilo says:

@Axis_of_Doom – Thanks : D@forever_4_real – Thanks also : D@youandwhosearmy – Yup.  Don’t I know it.@bukeshow – No, I haven’t.  I suspect most of them call him “Mr. President.”@QuantumStorm – “In defense of the committee, I’d point outthat MLK received his Nobel Peace Prize relatively early in his CivilRights career. I think the prize is, depending on the connotation, a”Call to action”.” Apparently it is.  I know maddow did a breakdown of other times it was used that way on her show.”Of course doing that with the science Nobel prizes isfucking retarded, but with the Peace prize? Maybe not so much.”Well they might give someone a science nobel if they build half a teleporter or something : D

  22. BimmerPhile says:

@agnophilo – “Republicans don’t grasp the idea of patriotism, loyalty to the set of ideals the country was founded upon.”No, most of them don’t.  But good god it’s hilarious that you think Obama or any democrat gives a rats ass about what this country was founded on.  Hell, Obama has openly said that he dislikes the Constitution and wants to change it to fit his socialist goals (he said this in an interview during the campaign when talking about Martin Luther King Jr, another well known socialist / communist). As for the Noble Farce Prize, it’s a joke and has been for a long time.  Hell, they gave it to Yassar Arafat, a known terrorist.  Yes, the rest of the world is excited to see Obama elected – because it means the downfall of the US.  If he keeps ramming his horrible policies through, we will quickly become a second (or worse, third) world country.  They know this and want it to happen because they are tired of living in the shadow of the US.Obamacare WILL raise healthcare costs to unbelievable levels, where the government will then take over healthcare to “help the burdened people” (while ignoring that they caused the sky high prices), lowering our quality of life and drastically reducing our freedoms.  Cap and Trade WILL destroy our economy over a fictitious problem (man made “climate change” – yes, weather and temperatures change, it’s been well documented over history, but humans have nothing to do with it).  If you knew even the slightest bit about the effects of these bills, you would realize this, but you don’t give a fuck about it because the media tells you that it’s cool to support Obama and his destructive policies.  It’s the people like you that cause the educated to despair over the future of this country.**Side note: the music auto-playing is really goddamn annoying.  Set it like others do so that the music player is there and if you want it on, you hit play.

  23. Despite my conservative leaning, this is one of various reasons I refuse to jump on the Republican bandwagon. I have a hard time saying my President winning the Nobel Peace Prize is a bad thing…Doesn’t that mean I’m rooting against my own team? Wouldn’t the Republicans call this “unamerican” were we to nay say a conservative president for receiving it?I appreciated Obama’s response to receiving it, and felt he was very noble in his choice of words. The man was humble about it, and I have to give him props for that. Did he earn it? That’s a question I’m steering away from for now. I’m leaning toward the “too early to say” side presently, though.

Speak yer mind.
