Your tiny cousins (pretty pictures).

I found some pictures randomly googling on the internet which made me realize the primate family tree is a lot more diverse than we typically think about.

When we think about primates we usually think chimps and gorillas and baboons.

But primates vary in size and appearance maybe even more than dogs.  I thought I’d share some of the more interesting ones I came across.

These are primates.  Look at the little hands and everything.

(Looks almost like a gremlin)

This freaky primate looks almost more like a wingless bat than a primate.  Then again both are mammals.

This guy just looks cool.

(“Mouse” lemur, the smallest known primate, usually is about 3 inches tall and just over 1 ounce in weight)

And (edit) by popular request:

Saw these pictures and was kind of blown away at just how diverse the primate family is.  All of these animals are your cousins.

Life is cool.

If you enjoyed this or thought any of the above were adorable (or freaky), please click recommend so others can enjoy too : )

  1. It is amazing how differing environmental influences over the course of millions of years created such unique and diverse species of basically the same basic creature.

  2. this made me smile πŸ˜€

@johnny_hopkins – : D  Yes, it is.@SuperNewman87 – Yup.  Interestingly the basic animal we all came from was probably more like the lemur than like a gorilla.  We are more of an abberation on the initial model than these seemingly unusual primates.@whatyouthinkyoubecome – : )  And at this ungodly hour that’s saying something.

These animals have a lot to offer when you study how they exist, live together. We humans have a lot to learn.

  8. That one that looked like a whatever bat…freaky. lol They are cute–though I like gorillas better. πŸ˜€

so cool. :)I took a trip to the local zoo last semester to observe primates for my biological anthropology class. It was so interesting to see how family groups displayed the same kind of behavior towards each other that humans do. Two primates, a couple, actually entertwined their tales while sitting next to each other on a branch- like how humans hold hands.

  15. @scribblemuffin – such wonderful news! and as a result…i’m gonna give you a present.

  16. references, my dear fellow. no blog would be complete without them. πŸ™‚
