Re: Medicare Shouldn’t Treat Your Dick If It Gets Sick.

Someone did a blog about medicare spending money on penis pumps, this is the text:

According to data collected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), more than $240 million dollars has been spent by medicare on penis pumps in the last ten years.  You can  read more here.  The “super committee” could not manage to reach an agreement to cut spending and we are spending tax dollars on this.  If little old men need some help to get things done in the bedroom they should pay for it themselves.  Unbelievable.

I responded:

Penis pumps are used to treat impotence which can cause many health issues (including putting you at risk for certain types of cancer if I’m not mistaken) and is a symptom of many medical conditions and a byproduct of medications taken for even more conditions.  So they should treat every part of you but your dick?  Why, so they don’t get cooties?

Seriously, grow up people.

And to someone who complained about plastic surgery for skin cancer on her face not being covered (who ironically thought the above was a ridiculous waste of spending) I said:

Plastic surgery isn’t covered for the same reason he’s dismissing something because it treats your dick – it’s thoughtlessly dismissed as a luxury or frivolous expense.  I should think you’d have more compassion.  If you were a man and the meds you took made you impotent you wouldn’t think it was a waste of money.  Imagine getting a disease that made your vagina grow shut, that would be the equivalent.  I guess they shouldn’t treat that because that’s where you have sex ::gasp::

And to someone else who complained about wasteful spending I said:

Yes, treating side effects, symptoms and medical conditions, what a waste of healthcare dollars!

And for anyone who’s wondering, no I’ve never suffered from erectile disfunction.  But I don’t think a health problem isn’t a health problem because it involves pee pee parts.  If your eye or your leg stops working that counts but if your dick stops working it doesn’t?  Irrational guilt about sex knows no bounds.

  1. How about people just pay for their own stuff? Can we come to a place where the government does not provide an answer for every problem?  I want to ask you a question.  You can ignore the first two.  Do you think the federal deficit is a problem?  Do you support any cut in the government besides cuts to the military.  I am perfectly fine with cutting the military in half.  Go ahead and cut it.  But can we cut other programs too?  Every household has to operate in a budget.  My wife is paying bills right next to me right at this minute.  We have to operate on a budget.  Every company has to do it.  The government is the only organization that can just continue to spend and all in the name of compassion.  We can’t sustain this level of spending.

@TheTheologiansCafe – “How about people just pay for their own stuff?”Because 5% of the country incurs 49% of the healthcare costs.  We don’t have everyone pay their own way because most couldn’t afford it.  This is the same reason we all chip in to fix the water mane if it breaks in front of your house instead of bankrupting you and making you sell your house to pay for it.”Can we come to a place where the government does not provide an answer for every problem?”Yes, because solutions to problems are a bad thing.  You act as though there is someone from the government waiting to wipe your ass when you take a shit.”I want to ask you a question.  You can ignore the first two.”  You then ask three, lol.”Do you think the federal deficit is a problem?”  Of course.”Do you support any cut in the government besides cuts to the military.”  Yes, however when it comes to healthcare the solution is restructuring the healthcare sector to bring costs down more than just cutting spending and ignoring the fact that healthcare per capita costs double what it costs every other industrialized country (including those with universal healthcare).  Paying everyone’s healthcare costs is actually vastly more efficient than letting everyone sink or swim because people will seek medical treatment if they get sick whether they can afford it or not, which drives everyone’s costs up.”I am perfectly fine with cutting the military in half. We can’t sustain this level of spending.”The budget was balanced under clinton and to my knowledge the solution wasn’t no more penis pumps or letting grandpa die of a curable disease or getting rid of food stamps.  It was more not spending trillions (plural) on a single war, fighting multiple unnecessary wars at once, cutting taxes when there was already a budget deficit etc.  Yes if your household is over budget you cut spending, but by the same token you don’t go to your boss and ask for fewer hours.

That’s the trouble with non-medical personnel legislating these things.  There are many different treatments and medications which are used in both elective and non-elective ways.  If anyone needs to make these decisions it should be a board of doctors.

I did not know impotence can put you at risk for cancers or any other health issues. Wow! The funny thing about this argument is, it’s the exact same argument for an increase in coverage for birth control.

Speak yer mind.
