For God So Loved The World…

…that he established a racist, genocidal ideology that hitler would later imitate in order to keep his “chosen people” racially and culturally “pure” (I mean “set apart”) for him to one day impregnate one of them without her consent so their son could then be tortured and murdered in the most brutal way possible which would allow him to forgive humans for having ancestors that once ate from a tree they were told not to eat from.  And by forgive I mean torture most of them in hell forever.

This is what every person who takes the bible literally believes.  And it isn’t silly, it’s insane.  There isn’t an ounce of continuity or logic to be had in this kind of literal view of the bible.  And trying to defend a literal reading of many of the stories in the bible is like trying to defend Pinocchio as a historical documentary.  A man’s wife being turned into a pillar of salt isn’t any different than a puppet becoming a real boy, and a man living in the belly of a whale for three days isn’t any different than… well no actually that part’s the same, lol.

That being said you can take truth and wisdom and beauty from scripture if you don’t take it all literally, and it helps to not take some of it at all.  But please can we at least admit some parts of it are just barbaric bronze age clutter tacked on by savages and despots?

Agree–Of course not all literally– Jesus even used parables and said to pluck out right eye if it caused one to sin– but did not actually mean literally do so. well , you know my beliefs/ thinking so I won’t defend it all here. You do know old testament shows grace to non Jews in many passages right? And, Jews had non Jews in royal lineage of Christ, right? Whole old testament history was supposedly for the preparation / anticipation of messiah/Christ’s birth. If Jesus’ past relatives had been pagan, supposedly His birth or ancestor’s faithfulness might have been diminished/ thwarted, if that were possible.

  2. Would it offend you if I start calling you angry Atheist?  Why so angry?

@moss_icon – Why thank you.@YouToMe –  “Agree–Of course not all literally– Jesus even used parables and said to pluck out right eye if it caused one to sin– but did not actually mean literally do so.”He may have meant it literally, it was the norm in antiquity to punish people by mutilation befitting the crime, such as cutting the hand off of a thief or removing the tongue of a perjurer.  Or then maybe jesus didn’t say it at all and it was added later.”well , you know my beliefs/ thinking so I won’t defend it all here.”Alrighty. : ) “You do know old testament shows grace to non Jews in many passages right?”Yes and no, there are passages restricting bad actions against them but the rules are stricter for actions against jews/israelites.”And, Jews had non Jews in royal lineage of Christ, right?” I googled it and they’re all women and all apparently depicted as sluts and prostitutes.  The wiki page also suggests that they were listed for symbolic purposes, especially since they all appear to come from different “tribes”.  But yeah interesting.”Whole old testament history was supposedly for the preparation / anticipation of messiah/Christ’s birth.” Yeah.”If Jesus’ past relatives had been pagan, supposedly His birth or ancestor’s faithfulness might have been diminished/ thwarted, if that were possible.” I should think there would be better ways than genocide to go about things.  Fundamentalists believe god created the universe “already old” but he couldn’t create humans already wise and civilized or already ready for jesus.  But whatever, it’s all speculation.

@TheTheologiansCafe – I wasn’t angry when I wrote this, nor am I generally angry.  As I believe george bernard shaw once said, “The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.”
