zoz36 = Douchebag, FYI.

The above xangan blogged about how they aren’t going to vote for obama because he “slashed” the NASA budget.  I mentioned that the president doesn’t write the federal budget, congress does.  So he says the president could do a line-item veto of the NASA budget, and I reminded him that line-item vetos don’t exist in the united states, at which time I looked up the actual NASA budget and pointed out that the budget this year is over a billion dollars higher than when obama took office.

At which point he had a really clever come-back – he blocked me.

So for being a pile of shit and a romney supporter, I dub you douchebag of the week.

  1. I hate when people block because they simply don’t like your point.

  2. I think it is interesting that some people blame the president for everything.

  3. I’ve always liked him.  Huh…

  4. The inescapable fact is that Obama not only cancelled the Constellation program, but he also allowed the space shuttle program to expire without coming up with a replacement.  So now we have to use the Russians to get to our own space station.  He also wanted to cancel funding to the Mars program, and he tried to disband the interplanetary exploration component of NASA.  In spite of the difficulties, NASA is proposing a new plan to colonize the moon.  Part of the reason they want to do this is because Russia and Japan also have long term plans to establish moon colonies, and NASA would also like to have a presence there.  It may be that we never get that opportunity thanks to Obama and perhaps other short sighted fools and traitors who will follow him if he wins, and if that happens it will be foreign powers that look down on us from the night sky, and foreign powers who inherit the future, and we will be at their mercy.

@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – “The inescapable fact is that Obama not only cancelled the Constellation program,” Yes, now we won’t have a manned mission to mars 20 years from now because obama increased NASA spending but not by as much as was previously planned.”but he also allowed the space shuttle program to expire without coming up with a replacement.”  Because in a few years commercial space flights will be viable.  “So now we have to use the Russians to get to our own space station.”  Or as it’s known in reality, the international space station.”He also wanted to cancel funding to the Mars program, and he tried to disband the interplanetary exploration component of NASA.”  You already said this.  So we send a hundred probes/robots for every one manned mission for a few years until the economy gets on track, not the end of the world.”In spite of the difficulties, NASA is proposing a new plan to colonize the moon.  Part of the reason they want to do this is because Russia and Japan also have long term plans to establish moon colonies, and NASA would also like to have a presence there.  It may be that we never get that opportunity thanks to Obama and perhaps other short sighted fools and traitors who will follow him if he wins, and if that happens it will be foreign powers that look down on us from the night sky, and foreign powers who inherit the future, and we will be at their mercy.”Yes, not raising the NASA budget enough is an act of treason.  You remind me of the obama “clipgate” scandal.

@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – @agnophilo – The big white elephant in the room is the fact that the US (and really the rest of the world) have far more pressing problems that the colonization of space. For example, the economy, social security, the crippling student education debt, and overall the intense high partisanship between Democrats and Republicans that allows nothing to be achieved that will actually help the country.Colonizing space is a luxury. It’s also something that the private sector could lead the way on if they’re so inclined. Finally, there are so many new technologies that are yet to be invented before colonizing space can even be talked about yet. As ever, this is just another stick with which to beat Mr. Obama up with that has little impact to the overall US image.

  7. @agnophilo – He tried to cancel the interplanetary aspect of NASA, and many scientists have lost their jobs because of him.  The interplanetary department of NASA survives only because of popular support that rallied behind them.  I used to have an article on this but it looks like the article was taken down.We paid for most of it.Or we keep our space program and slash social spending.  That is the biggest drain on the economy, and as long as it increased the government will increasingly go further into debt.  What I’m trying to explain to you is that all this welfare spending only exacerbates the problem.  The more money you throw at that problem the more it will grow. There are many things he does which could be considered treasonous, except that he is not from here and his loyalties were always to something else.

  8. @cmdr_keen – No, progress and exploration IS the most important thing.  Imagine if Fernando and Isabel had the left wing liberal mentality.  Imagine if they told Christopher Columbus “Oh we would like to sponsor you but we have too much poverty here to afford to spend money on exploration.”  That is what a liberal would do.What gobbles up more of the budget than anything is entitlement spending.  That is what we cannot afford.  Also we cannot afford to give aid to countries that hate us and our way of life.  I would say something like “why Obama gives money to countries like Egypt and Pukistan is beyond me” except that I know exactly why.  He’s a Muslim, he’s helping his people. As for beating him with a stick, everything that man does is a stick to beat him with.  Stupid dolt should be kicked out of office.

  9. agnophilo says:

@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – Yes, he is from here you racist piece of shit.  And helping the poor costs money but it also stimulates the economy more than anything.  Unlike the republican delusion giving bill gates a big tax return doesn’t actually make more people be able to afford computers – giving lots of poor people food stamps however allows them to buy food and a) not die, b) buy groceries, which increases demand for retail outlets, farmers and all the little businesses in between so they hire more people, make more money and are in turn a) getting people off of welfare or stopping them from needing it to begin with and b) spending money buying things like computers which stimulates the economy and helps bill gates at the same time.

  10. agnophilo says:

@cmdr_keen – Some more of his political analysis you might find interesting.

  11. @agnophilo – Oh yes, I was waiting for that, the racist card.  Actually I’m surprised you haven’t done that earlier, you’re slipping.  That’s supposed to be a first base liberal tactic.  That being said, call me whatever you want, it’s just words.  No, he is from Kenya, which is what his Kenyan grandmother said, and it’s why he never invites his Kenyan family to the White House.  Letting Bill Gates keep more money means he can hire more employees.  See, you are just letting your gross ignorance of the world show here.  Most of our poor people are fat, and those of them who aren’t homeless still have much better houses and more appliances than the average person in the 3rd world.  If you want to see some real poverty you need to go to India.  Now that’s poverty.  Not trying to downplay anyones problems, but you really need to go visit some other countries.  Also, ready my blog entry on the welfare mom where I discussed the need level of the average food stamp recipient.  Foodstamps and welfare do not stimulate the economy, but I do have a three step solution that would:1) End welfare and foodstamps.2) Close the doors on immigration of unskilled workers.3) Make every state a right to work state. This would bring most of those people who are currently net drains back into the producing sector.  Not only would they have more spending money but this would also be good for domestic industries and production, and the government could save a good deal of money as well.

I just love your site!  You always make me smile when nothing else does.  You have such a good head on your shoulders and such an amazing brain within!  Don’t ever let them wear you down.  You make people think, something they don’t do ofter enough and they should.

  13. cmdr_keen says:

@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – Without welfare (food stamps) Mitt Romney wouldn’t be in the position he’s in today as his Dad would barely be scraping by, if he even survived. The social security net is a basic necessity to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to survive and be strong enough to contribute positively to society. Very few people actively leach off the system, and no matter what system you have, it’s going to happen.Since George W Bush took office, policies of giving those like Bill Gates tax breaks have been in effect, and the effect on job creation was… negligible. It sounds nice, but it doesn’t work in practice as there’s always an excuse: high gas prices, benefits are too much, the economy isn’t strong enough, there’s no demand, etc. etc. The end result is that rich continue hoarding wealth and the standard of living for the rest keeps decreasing. Even if they the businesses didn’t higher more staff, they at least could offer real wage raises… but they don’t. So with the ever increasing pool of wealth that’s on offer, why isn’t more of it making it’s way into the economy?

  14. cmdr_keen says:

@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – Ferdinand and Isabella funded Columbus because they wanted or expected the huge economic returns that were promised if a shorter route to the lucrative East Indies was discovered. They had a monetary stake in the success of the endeavor, and once the returns were not as great as expected, Columbus saw his funding slashed and was even arrested and detained for a time.Given how barren the Moon is, where would the economic benefit of having a presence on the Moon come from? Colonizing the Moon in the near future is the equivalent of a pissing contest right now.

  15. shadow320 says:

@Ambrosius_Augustus_Rex – Keep our space program & slash social spending?  I’m all for the space program, but it is a luxury & one we can’t afford right now.  Here’s an idea for you.  Instead of cutting out social spending like welfare, WIC, public health care, social security, and other human rights programs why don’t we just euthanize the poor, the handicapped & the elderly?  It would be more humane than denying them food, shelter, heat & medicine.  After all we live in a disposable society so why don’t we just dispose of the undesirable humans?  Then there would be a lot more money.  Just sayin…

  16. @cmdr_keen – What are you talking about?  Send me a link.  In any case the Romneys are part of the Mormon church, which has it’s own support base.So basically you’re a socialist who thinks it’s unfair that some people have more money than you do.  Guess what, not everyone has the same level of capability or intellect.  If someone makes more than you it’s because they can do something you can’t.  But alright, let’s go with your model.  Let’s break all the rich people and distribute their money to all the poor, which means I would get some of it.  Will that create any new jobs a year later?  No, and now employers don’t have the money to pay their employees.  Will the poor people be better off long term?  No, the money will be gone and they still won’t have jobs, and now there will be no one to hire them.  Throwing money at poverty, which is the Democrat way, only produces more poverty.  If you incentivise a behavior you will get more of it, and now under Obama things have been worse than ever before aside from the Great Depression.  Yes, what a wonderful economy Obama has created.Part of the reason people are not hiring is because they are afraid to expand their businesses, and with Obama looking for new ways to tax people it’s unlikely that they will.I’ll tell you what the benefits of colonizing the moon are:1) it is full of raw materials which we can mine2) we can put heavy industries there without having to worry about environmental damage.3) It would be a good tactical location for a military base.  Sun Tsu said that whoever has the high ground in a conflict has the advantage.  4) We could establish shipyards there to build larger ships to go out further into the solar system.  With lower gravity we will not have to expend as much effort getting the ships into space, so the ships could be much larger, and they could hold larger crews and more equipment.  5) there would be many ancillary technological developments which would improve the quality of life for everyone. So that’s it in a nutshell.  OR we could just give up on science and progress, because having a socialist hellhole with no economic opportunities is much more important, just like apologizing to our enemies is more important than protecting or freedoms, and being on David Letterman is more important than meeting with the leader of our chief ally in the Middle East.

  17. @shadow320 – We can afford it a good deal more than we can afford giving aid to countries that hate us.  Interesting talk about euthenasia, considering that that was part of the original Obamacare bill.  I don’t need to be schooled on charity by a liberal.  The fact is I give 10% of each of my paychecks, and I’m already a poor guy.  How much of your regular paycheck (if you have one) do you give?  See, you liberals are always talking about charity, but it’s not charity if you give away someone else’s money.  No one gives as much in voluntary donations as the religious right.  There is a reason why we don’t hear of any atheist run charities.  We hear about atheist run activist groups, but that doesn’t really help anyone in any objective sense.

  18. UTRow1 says:

Ambrosius is fucking nuts re: space exploration. It takes a special kind of right wing ideologue to pretend that the Obama administration, or liberals in general, are anti-space exploration. JFK did more to spur the development of space exploration than any president; the vast majority of NASA scientists are social liberals from liberal academic institutions like Stanford, Cal Tech, and MIT (as reflected by NASA’s numerous printed statements rejecting conservative causes – like global warming denialism and creationism); and Obama funded the NASA Mars rover landing. The Democrats have, historically, pushed for magnitudes more funding into technology R&D than Republicans, who have, in recent decades, made it abundantly clear that the government should get out of scientific research altogether and leave it to non-existent private entities. Of course, the majority of scientific research funding is from the federal government, so anti-federal government conservatives are less likely to promote federal government expenditures of tax payer money.Anyways, just ignore him.

  19. Christ, your country’s government system is a bloody mess. Congress. Senate. Governors. Bloody hell, it’s a wonder you people ever get anything done. Put me in power and I’ll have that mess cleaned up with my superior fascism.Checks and balances, my ass. More like ‘let’s get nothing done’.

  20. shadow320 says:

Whoa there Ambrosius! I was being sarcastic about the euthanasia! I’m just saying what’s the big rush to colonize the moon? There’s no jobs there, no food, no water, no air… wait, are you saying we can ship the unwanted there? Sort of a natural euthanasia?

  21. UTRow1 says:

@shadow320 – A lot of far-right libertarians like the idea of “going Galt” and launching into space to create libertopian colonies free of unseemly minorities and poor people. It’s nonsensical for obvious reasons, but when you go onto the major libertarian internet forums, you will see a surprising number of them express an infatuation with space colonization for precisely that reason.

  22. shadow320 says:

Haven’t they ever watched a si-fi or horror movie?  Be carefull what you wish for.  Do they really think it would be preferable to Earth???  Would they have liked to go back to prehistoric days, too?  I suppose if you like the idea of bleak nothingness…I take it back- let them go!  They can have it!  One question… will they still have to pay taxes?

Speak yer mind.
