I Should’ve Made The Connection Sooner.

In the debate when romney said “the place you put your money makes a pretty clear indication of where your heart is”, right before bashing obama for spending 90 billion on clean energy (when the real figure was about a third of that spaced over many years) I didn’t put 2 and 2 together but romney was making a biblical reference.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

The thing is though that this is the passage in context, tell me if it sounds like romney follows it to you:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.  But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!  No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Where your treasure is there your heart will be also, and you cannot serve both god and money.

Where does romney’s heart lie?

Romney’s right there in the middle.  You tell me.

    He creeps me out.

  2. TheSutraDude says:

good connection and that could well be other peoples’ pension money their gloating over.

  3. angys_coco says:

Wow, I never thought of that! So true.

  4. Like many church goin Republicans, they don’t practice what they hear on Sunday mornings.  They just regurgitate it to other when it’s convenient.BTW, have you seen the Stewart – O’reilly debate from last night?  If you haven’t you should watch it.

  5. And how much of the money Romney makes does he give to charity as oposed to Obama?Just wondered if you made that comparison or do you just overlook that.@YouToMe – Romney is not who I would want but talk about creeping out,Obama is the master.Romney doesn’t hold a candle to Obama, sorry,my opinion Julie

  6. @ItsWhatEyeKnow – You don’t even go to church…

  7. @ShimmerBodyCream –  I choose not to attend church.  You’re statement is therefore 100% correct.  Now if there’s a point to your statement, I’m all ears (or eyes in this case), and would love for you to go ahead and make it.

  8. @ItsWhatEyeKnow – No one fucking cares about your appraisal of their church going activities.

  9. @ShimmerBodyCream – That’s your point?  Eh, my 11 year old son makes more sense than that.  Mitt Romney professes to be a devout Christian and yet lives a life vastly in opposition to basic Christian ideals.  Since he’s running for president his basic character and veracity are fair game for scrutiny.  Aaaaaaaand since this is a public blog site which accepts comments I deduce that this blogger wishes to engage in conversations about the material he has chosen to write about.  I know it might be hard for you to grasp, since I’m using logical and all, but try.

  10. @ItsWhatEyeKnow – If you have trouble understanding refer to a dictionary. One word by one word, no one is judging you.

  11. @ShimmerBodyCream – Maybe one day you’ll actually BE funny.

  12. @ItsWhatEyeKnow – You have far surpassed me in that category with your face alone. I bow to you.

  13. @ItsWhatEyeKnow – See your profile picture.

  14. @ShimmerBodyCream – Kind of cute that you keep trying.

  15. agnophilo says:

@YouToMe – Me too.@TheSutraDude – VERY good point.@angys_coco – : )@ItsWhatEyeKnow – Just watched it – brilliant.  When O’reilly was explaining the reason our discourse is so fucked up I was astonished, I was thinking “is he listening to what he’s saying?”  And yeah, there’s a lot of hypocristianity unfortunately.  And just plain ignorance.  Christians know less about the bible on average than any other major group in america, including atheists/agnostics according to a pew research poll.@Somefishytales – Obama gave 22% of his income to charity and paid 20.5% in taxes.  Romney paid an average of 13% to charity for the 20 years prior to the start of his presidential campaign (almost all of which went to the church of mormon) which he then doubled when he began running for president for image reasons.  He paid a lower tax rate than obama, 13-15% if memory serves, I will look it up if you want.  The Obama’s brought home around 700k last year and were more generous with it than the romney’s, the romney’s are worth over 200 million dollars and have average incomes of tens of millions of dollars.Who do you think is following the passage above better?  That’s not rhetorical, I’d like an answer.@ShimmerBodyCream – On the topic of following the bible:”And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.  But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” – Jesus (Matthew 6:5-6)@ShimmerBodyCream – You appraised her churchgoing activities, not the other way around.  I assume you know one another?

  16. @agnophilo – How can I appraise something she does not attend? …

  17. @RulerofMasons – I have been good. I have been hanging out with my Grandma. How have you been

  18. @ShimmerBodyCream – Are you in a bad mood 90% of the time?

  19. @RulerofMasons – 100% of the time when I do not have my vicodin.

  20. agnophilo says:

@ShimmerBodyCream – Okay, lack of churchgoing activities.

  21. @agnophilo – Ok, my appraisal of her not going to church is 10/10. She seems to do it well.

  22. @agnophilo – If your info is correct Obama, but I seriously doubt your info knowing who you trust for your info.No big deal to.I’m not getting into some big hairy fight or debate about it.Just wondered if you had even researched that part of it.I have heard differently and I trust where I heard it from.

  23. Creating wealth is one of the most Godly acts in the human repertoire.  Where did Jesus or Mother Theresa get the money to do what they did?Yes, from the wealthy.

  24. I thought your argument was going to be based on his financial holdings in foreign countries, not a religious argument.

  25. agnophilo says:

@Somefishytales – SO LOOK IT UP YOURSELF.  Don’t just accuse me of lying and act like an asshole.  Or here, fox news gives the exact same figures.  It’s also worth mentioning that obama gave all of the 1.4 million dollars that came with the nobel prize he won to charity, even though it’s around double his highest annual income.

  26. agnophilo says:

@PrisonerxOfxLove – Actually mother teresa got money from brutal dicators in exchange for posing for the cameras with them and legitimizing them, but that’s another argument.  And it’s astonishing how you can say something is godly after I just quoted your god saying not to do it.  The bible truly has nothing to do with christianity.@xsimplepleasuresx – True.  And it’s actually possible romney paid zero taxes before running for office, that 13% figure is an estimate.

  27. tau_1 says:

WOW…Very great and honest presentation..What”s a question we all must ask yourself including a loud mouth person who is running for President…Also we must ask ourself, do we want a known lier or a President who is honest, a gentleman, and will not allow tabloid media to ditate his behavior even in an debate.

  28. cmdr_keen says:

I think that while most politicians play lip-service to their religiosity in order to keep surface/nominal Christians happy, very few actually practice what they hear all the time.I don’t understand why to most Christians ensuring the President is a bonafide Christian (or just in name-only, it seems like) when they rarely act the way they should, nor how being a Christian affects their job performance.I’d far rather hear an actual policy discussion – it will affect the country far more than what flavor religion the candidates may or may not have.

  29. dingus6 says:

That one’s too easy.In the Cayman Islands, of course!

  30. amateurprose says:

@ItsWhatEyeKnow – @ShimmerBodyCream – Ugh! I’d pay a million dollars to see the two of you make out!!!

  31. @amateurprose – I have standards.who the fuck am I kidding, I’ll do it for a 20

  32. @agnophilo – An atheist quoting the Bible is like a chimpanzee trying to play Mozart.

Speak yer mind.
